VAVA ‘U popular elected MP Samiu Vaipulu reminded members of the House of the Kingdom of Tongthat Cabinet should not always agree with Parliament and with each other, as a checking mechanism defending the Constitution.

“If the Parliament pass a Constitution amendment three times, Cabinet should be unanimous in voting on it. But if there is a single vote of dissention, then it is enough to stop that amendment,” said Samiu.

Dear issues to the public are the retention of the Monarchy, the Hou‘eiki, and the protection of the lands.

Vaipulu said the procedure is to ensure that no specific party or group that end up in power apply ultimate authority as they wish.

Vaipulu clarified that the procedure is to ensure that the “party system” does not function, as political parties are not legalised yet.

Vaipulu also made the statements in response to Sifa Tu‘utafaiva, who seconded for Akilisi Pohiva as Prime Minister and said the organisation of the party, will mean more efficiency for Cabinet, and so government.
